Heading out on I-95 north from the Providence (R.I.) airport after my arrival from Orlando, I just couldn’t get the Bee Gees’ Song “Massachusetts” out of my mind, and I began to start singing, “Feel I’m goin’ back to Massachusetts. Something’s telling me I must go home.” I headed towards Cape Cod, to the Town of Sandwich, to meet with friends and play the golf course at Sandwich Hollows Golf Club, where I had been a member prior to moving to The Villages in Florida in 2019.
Owned and operated by the Town of Sandwich. This 18-hole, par 71 championship layout was built on 120 acres of wooded, rolling terrain. The fairways were designed to include some of the most scenic elevations on Cape Cod. The view from the clubhouse offers a panoramic look at both Cape Cod Bay and the tranquil Town of Sandwich. The property offers a practice range, and memberships are available.
Over the past year, Sandwich Hollows Golf Club has been in a constant state of transition while a new irrigation system is being installed. This state-of-the-art system will add new life to the fairways and greens. Despite the ongoing work, the course remains in operation with little or no disruption in play.
A visit to the pro shop found a variety of golfing attire and equipment and the staff was courteous and helpful. Daily greens fees fluctuate depending on the season and time of day. It’s best to give the pro shop a call to check on the daily fees or go online. The clubhouse also has a restaurant that is a popular hangout for local golfers.
The course is surrounded by woodlands. Numerous undulations and strategically placed bunkers combined with this natural setting create a golf course that will challenge both the accomplish player while accommodating the novice.
I recommend rentinjg a golf cart if you plan to play 18 holes. Elevation changes throughout the course could be an unexpected physical challenge for walkers. More
