The Caravelle is where the original “Golf Package in Myrtle Beach” was born in 1962. Organizers met at the resort to devise a strategy to entice golfers to the area during the shoulder seasons. Myrtle Beach previously had been exclusively a beach getaway. The result of that strategy session is The Grand Strand, a world-renowned golf destination with resorts and courses spanning a 17-mile stretch of the Atlantic coast. The Caravelle’s oceanfront hotel recently underwent an $8 million renovation. It features an indoor heated swimming pool, lazy river ride for kids and fine dining.
The Waccamaw Trail south of Myrtle Beach comprises 12 golf courses.
