Cynthia Boal Janssens is a former newspaper writer and editor turned freelance writer.
She is the former travel editor and Sunday magazine editor of The Detroit News. She also worked for newspapers in California, Georgia, New York and Pennsylvania.
She has been active for many years in the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) and served as national president of the 1,200-member professional organization.
