Spring time conjures up pleasant visions for sports fans in New England like Red Sox opening day and the Boston Marathon, but for golf aficionados it has special meaning – longer days, warmer weather and tee times at just about all 695 golf facilities throughout the six-state region.
Is there a better place to be in April? Well, if you’ve lived through a few Aprils you know the answer is a definitive YES!
April is by far the most frustrating and aggravating month for New England Golf Nation. We want the weather to cooperate but it’s mostly cloudy, cool, rainy, and rotten and you fill in the blank. In short, it ‘sucks.”
That mildly negative assessment is meant to motivate an April/May road trip, not discourage you from the fun involved in slopping around the golf course in your new waterproof, breathable, lightweight rain gear, Gustbuster umbrella, rain-resistant golf glove, hand-warmers, and towels and treasured cooler.
The second full week in April is also time when everyone looks forward to one of the most special weeks of the year – Masters Week – when the best players in the world visit the famed Augusta National Golf Club. Most of us will never have the chance to play Augusta National, but there are many other wonderful courses in Georgia. Many of these are part of the Georgia Golf Trail.
Doug Hollandsworth is founder of the Georgia Golf Trail and he is sending a special invitation to all New England golfers to “come on down.” He and his team at GGT do an amazing job of promoting golf and tourism in Georgia but he wants to see more friendly faces from folks in the Northeast. From the mountains in the north to the southeast coastline, Georgia is a great state with great history and a much to offer.
“The Georgia Golf Trail features more than 20 fabulous courses throughout the Peach State,” said Hollandsworth who is celebrating his 10th year. “We are excited about offering attractive golf packages to New Englanders, especially to golfers who may not have visited Georgia and only know about us us because of the Masters. We enjoy showing off our outstanding golf courses with first-class accommodations and true southern hospitality.” More
